Special Education Programming in Juvenile CorrectionsRobert B. Rutherford, Jr., received his PhD from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. He is currently professor of special education at Arizona State University, editor of Behavioral Disorders, and principal investigator of the Correctional Special Education Training (C/SET) Project.
C. Michael Nelson received his EdD from the University of Kansas, and is currently professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kentucky. He is the C/SET project inservice coordinator.
Bruce I. Wolford received his PhD in adult education and public administration of corrections from Ohio State University. He is associate professor in the College of Law Enforcement's Research and Service Center at Eastern Kentucky University, and is the C/SET project preservice coordinator. Results are reported from a sample of 15 state directors of juvenile corrections who were surveyed regarding the extent of special education programming in juvenile correctional facilities. Information was collected describing the number of handicapped students served, the number and types of teachers and psychologists serving these students, the types of correctional education programs offered, and the types of special education services available in juvenile correctional facilities. Implications of these descriptive data are discussed.
